Every city writes its own sign rules. In New Orleans, sign permits are issued by the city's building or planning department (or by Orleans Parish for properties in unincorporated areas), and allowances for size, height, setbacks, illumination and digital displays depend on the zoning district and the street the property faces. Signs visible from interstates and state highways may also need state outdoor-advertising review. We confirm the rules for your parcel before design starts, so the sign you approve is the sign that gets permitted.

New Orleans FAQ
Common questions about New Orleans sign projects
Does American LED Signage serve New Orleans, LA?
Yes. We design, permit, fabricate and install commercial LED signs in New Orleans and nearby communities including Metairie, Kenner, Slidell, Chalmette, Gretna and Harvey, plus the rest of Louisiana.
Do I need a permit for a business sign in New Orleans?
In most cases, yes. Permanent signs, and almost all illuminated and freestanding signs, need a sign permit from the City of New Orleans (or Orleans Parish for unincorporated areas). Many signs also need an electrical permit. We prepare the drawings and handle the submittal.
How long do sign permits take in New Orleans?
It depends on the sign type, the zoning district, whether a variance or design review is needed, and the city's current workload. Simple wall signs move fastest; freestanding signs with engineering take longer. We give you a project-specific timeline with your quote.
How much does an LED sign cost in New Orleans?
We don't publish prices because every sign is custom. Cost depends on size, sign type, illumination, materials, engineering and foundation, electrical work, permits and installation access. Request a free quote and we'll price your exact project.
Can I put an LED message center on my sign in New Orleans?
Often, yes, but electronic message displays are regulated: many cities limit brightness, message hold time, animation and where digital signs are allowed. We check New Orleans's rules for your property before design.
Do you repair existing signs in New Orleans?
Yes. We repair and maintain existing signs in New Orleans, including LED retrofits of older fluorescent and neon signs, face replacement, power supply and module replacement, and storm damage repair.
